Recycle Health New Mexico (RHNM) is a program founded as a collaborative partnership between Green World Health Net and Project C.U.R.E. The purpose of this program is to recover medical supplies and equipment from local hospitals and private donors, and re-purpose these supplies to be utilized by hospitals and health clinics throughout the developing world.
Our Impact: We have collected over 12 tractor-trailer loads of medical supplies and equipment in 2014 . This is an estimated 12 tons of recovered medical supplies/equipment that would otherwise have ended up in New Mexico landfills. Our goal is to collect 14 tractor-trailer loads in 2015, this would amount to about 14 tons of supplies diverted from landfills, instead these supplies will end up at health institutions in developing countries. These supplies will be used for medical treatment and research.
Our Journey: The donations received are taken to Project C.U.R.E. which receives the medical supplies and equipment collected by RHNM and other organizations and transports them to their warehouse in Houston, Texas. Supplies are then sorted and categorized as needed. Since 2000, Project C.U.R.E has shipped over 1100 containers of medical supplies to over 130 different countries and is ranked as one of the top 20 US non-profits by Forbes Magazine.
Get Involved: We estimate that RHNM currently captures around 15-25% of the recoverable medical supplies and equipment that are available from New Mexico hospitals and clinics. In the future we hope to increase outreach and raise the medical supplies and equipment recovery percentages in New Mexico to over 60% or higher. Please help us reach our goal by getting involved. Involvement can be giving a donation, helping us collect, store and organize medical supplies and equipment in our warehouse, going on donation pick-up runs, or organizing your school or church for a donation drive. There are many ways for you to help make a difference.
